Our Prescription Drug Rehab Reviews

Walking through those doors the first day, my hands wouldn't stop shaking. Alcohol destroyed my relationships and left me completely isolated. Thankfully, the counselors here actually listened instead of lecturing. Sitting in these exact group circles changed everything for me. Hearing other people share their raw, real struggles made the loneliness disappear. Celebrating six months sober today. This place gives you your life back.

Coming here felt like a massive leap into the unknown, especially dealing with all that shame I carried around. The team at Ascend Recovery Center didn't treat me like a problem to be solved, but a person worth helping. There were days I wanted to pack my bags and bolt, but the support here kept me grounded. Now, I actually wake up without that weight on my chest. It's hard to put into words, but this place truly changed my trajectory.

Had an amazing experience here, one of the most personable groups of people to come to for recovery and truly helped me with developing the tools necessary to start my recovery. Did the 10 day detox and got exactly what I wanted out of the experience: healthy nutrition, great groups, and even your own personal TV in the rooms to help pass the time. If you're serious about your recovery and want a wholesome, worthwhile and safe place to do it, I recommend coming here.

Levels of care

Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment Programs

Ascend Recovery Center treats prescription drug addiction across a full continuum of care on one Albuquerque campus, matching each level to the exact drug class involved so clients move between opioid, benzodiazepine, and stimulant recovery without switching providers.

01Medical Detox

Medical detox is organized around the specific medication, with COWS-guided care for opioids, a gradual taper for benzodiazepines, and supportive care through the crash for stimulants. Licensed practical nurses are on site 24 hours a day, and a medical provider evaluates each detox patient within hours of arrival to build a plan around the drug the client is dependent on.

02Inpatient Rehab (Residential)

Residential treatment offers structured live-in support for up to 30 days after detox, when withdrawal from a prescribed medication can still leave low mood, poor sleep, and cravings. In an intimate 18-bed setting, clients stabilize and begin the therapy that examines why the medication took hold.

03Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

A partial hospitalization program delivers full clinical days of therapy while a client returns home each evening, running Monday through Saturday. It keeps the structure of residential care in place as clients step down and address the pain, anxiety, or attention problem the prescription was meant to treat.

04Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program meets three clinical hours a day, three or five days a week, so clients can return to work, school, and family while staying in treatment. Group and individual sessions reinforce the coping skills that replace a medication once relied on for pain, anxiety, or focus.

05Outpatient Rehab

Outpatient care provides lighter ongoing support two or three days a week as clients rebuild daily routines. It continues an existing opioid medication where appropriate and keeps clients connected to the same clinical team for relapse-prevention planning.

Class-based detox
Opioids, benzodiazepines, and stimulants each change the body differently, so each produces a different withdrawal and calls for a different safe path off the drug. Ascend identifies the drug class before building a plan and matches detox to the exact medication involved.
Medication-assisted treatment for the opioid subset
For prescription opioid dependence, Suboxone, the injectable Sublocade, and Naltrexone or Vivitrol reduce cravings and lower overdose risk when paired with therapy. Methadone is referred out to a federally licensed opioid treatment program.
Safe, supervised benzodiazepine tapering
Stopping a benzodiazepine abruptly can trigger seizures. Ascend manages benzodiazepine dependence with a gradual, medically supervised taper under 24/7 nursing rather than cold-turkey discontinuation.
The full continuum under one roof
Detox, residential, day treatment, intensive outpatient, and outpatient care all live in one Albuquerque location, so a client steps down without changing providers.
Integrated care for co-occurring conditions
Many prescriptions are written for pain, anxiety, sleep, or attention, which overlap with mental health conditions. Ascend treats both together through dual diagnosis care coordinated by one clinical team.
Confidential, insurance-verified admissions
One confidential call covers assessment, insurance verification, and scheduling. Ascend is in network with most major plans, including Medicaid, Blue Cross, United Healthcare, and Molina.

How admissions works

Our Prescription Drug Treatment Admission Process

1

Call our confidential line

One conversation covers a first screening, insurance verification, and scheduling. Support begins with the first call, and nothing shared is used against the person who reaches out.

2

Clinical assessment

Evidence-based screenings, including PHQ-9, GAD-7, the Columbia Suicide Screening, and an ASAM level-of-care assessment, match each client to the right program.

3

The right level of care

If medically supervised detox is needed, the team coordinates a safe arrival with 24/7 nursing. If an outpatient level fits, care starts there instead.

4

Start treatment

Once a plan and coverage are confirmed, treatment begins, with therapy and medication where appropriate carrying through each level of care.

Know the signs

What are the common signs of Prescription Drug Use Disorder?

No single sign confirms a substance use disorder, but a cluster over time is worth a professional conversation.

01PHYSICAL

Needing a higher dose for the same effect

Requiring more of a medication to get the same relief, a sign the body has adapted and dependence is building.

02PHYSICAL

Withdrawal when a dose is late

Anxiety, aches, sweating, or nausea when a dose is delayed, signaling physical dependence on the medication.

03BEHAVIORAL

Running out early or seeking extra refills

Finishing a prescription ahead of schedule, or seeking refills from more than one prescriber.

04BEHAVIORAL

Using the medication outside its purpose

Taking the medication for reasons other than what it was prescribed for, or in ways the prescriber did not intend.

05BEHAVIORAL

Repeated inability to cut down

Wanting to reduce or stop the medication and being unable to, despite genuine efforts.

06SOCIAL

Continuing despite clear problems

Keeping up use even as it harms health, work, or relationships, and spending significant time protecting the supply.

For families

How to help a loved one struggling with prescription drug addiction

1

Recognize the signs

Tolerance, withdrawal, failed attempts to cut back, and use that continues despite harm are all worth paying attention to. A cluster of signs over time matters more than any one.

2

Start the conversation

Choose a calm, private moment. Lead with care and specific observations rather than blame, listen more than lecture, and offer a concrete next step.

3

Avoid harmful approaches

Skip shaming and ultimatums delivered in anger, and never encourage a person to stop a substance abruptly on their own, since some withdrawals are dangerous.

4

Connect them with care

One confidential call to Ascend covers education, options, and insurance. In a crisis, call 911, or call or text the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment FAQs

Can a client still be addicted if they only take what a doctor prescribed?
Yes. Physical dependence can develop even when a client takes a medication exactly as prescribed, especially with opioids and benzodiazepines. That is a medical situation, not a moral failing, and our team can help clients stop safely.
Does Ascend use medication to treat prescription opioid addiction?
For prescription opioids we offer medication-assisted treatment. Our preferred options are Suboxone and injectable naltrexone, known as Vivitrol, and we also offer Sublocade. Our medical team decides what fits based on the client's history. Methadone is not in our formulary, and we refer to a federally licensed opioid treatment program when it is the right fit.
Is it dangerous for a client to stop their anxiety medication?
If the medication is a benzodiazepine, stopping suddenly can trigger seizures. These medications require a gradual, medically supervised taper. Please reach out so we can help clients come off them safely rather than stopping alone.
How is stimulant addiction treated if there is no medication for it?
There is no FDA-approved medication for prescription stimulant addiction, so care centers on supportive medical management through the crash phase and behavioral therapy such as CBT and DBT. Our team helps clients rebuild focus and mood without the drug and treats any co-occurring anxiety or depression.
How long does prescription drug detox take?
The average detox stay is about 5 to 7 days, though length of stay is clinically driven and depends on the specific medication. A benzodiazepine taper, for example, may take longer to complete safely.
Can Ascend treat anxiety or depression along with the addiction?
Yes. We screen at intake with the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 and can treat co-occurring mental health conditions alongside substance use, including as a primary condition when appropriate. Trauma-informed care and EMDR are available with EMDR-trained therapists on staff.
Will insurance cover prescription drug treatment?
We are approved for Medicaid, Blue Cross, United Healthcare, and Molina, and we are in network with VACCN, TriWest, and CompPsych. Under the ACA and parity rules, most plans cover substance use treatment comparably to other care. We verify each client's benefits before they commit.

Stop safely, whatever the prescription.

Opioids, benzos, and stimulants each need a different approach. Call our admissions team for a confidential conversation about the right one for the client, or verify insurance to begin.
