Our Suboxone Treatment Reviews

Mildred Hughes

Walking through those doors the first day, my hands wouldn't stop shaking. Alcohol destroyed my relationships and left me completely isolated. Thankfully, the counselors here actually listened instead of lecturing. Sitting in these exact group circles changed everything for me. Hearing other people share their raw, real struggles made the loneliness disappear. Celebrating six months sober today. This place gives you your life back.

Coming here felt like a massive leap into the unknown, especially dealing with all that shame I carried around. The team at Ascend Recovery Center didn't treat me like a problem to be solved, but a person worth helping. There were days I wanted to pack my bags and bolt, but the support here kept me grounded. Now, I actually wake up without that weight on my chest. It's hard to put into words, but this place truly changed my trajectory.

Had an amazing experience here, one of the most personable groups of people to come to for recovery and truly helped me with developing the tools necessary to start my recovery. Did the 10 day detox and got exactly what I wanted out of the experience: healthy nutrition, great groups, and even your own personal TV in the rooms to help pass the time. If you're serious about your recovery and want a wholesome, worthwhile and safe place to do it, I recommend coming here.

Levels of care

Opioid Treatment Programs

Ascend Recovery Center treats opioid use disorder with Suboxone and other medication-assisted treatment across a full continuum of care on one Albuquerque campus, so a medication plan started in detox follows clients through every level without switching providers.

01Medical Detox

Medical detox monitors opioid withdrawal with the COWS scale, and the medical team can taper first and transition a client to a maintenance medication such as Suboxone when it is appropriate. Licensed practical nurses are on site 24 hours a day, and a medical provider evaluates every new patient within hours of admission.

02Inpatient Rehab (Residential)

Residential treatment provides round-the-clock support after detox, where a Suboxone plan already in place continues without interruption. Clients stabilize on a steady dose while daily therapy and group work begin the behavioral side of opioid recovery.

03Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

A partial hospitalization program delivers full clinical days that keep medication management and behavioral therapy in place while a client returns home each evening. Individual therapy runs weekly at this level alongside daily clinical groups, so the Suboxone regimen and the recovery work stay connected.

04Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program offers several clinical hours a few days a week, so clients can return to work, school, and family while an existing Suboxone regimen is maintained. Individual therapy every two weeks with weekly check-ins keeps relapse-prevention skills sharp during the transition home.

05Outpatient Rehab

Outpatient care provides lighter ongoing support, medication monitoring, and relapse-prevention planning as opioid recovery stabilizes. It keeps clients connected to the same medical and clinical team that managed their Suboxone from the start.

Buprenorphine eases cravings and withdrawal
Suboxone combines buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist that calms cravings and withdrawal without the intense high of a full opioid, with naloxone, which discourages misuse. That steadying effect is what makes room for therapy to take hold.
Lower overdose risk than full opioids
Because buprenorphine only partially activates opioid receptors and its effect levels off at higher doses, it carries a lower overdose risk than full opioids, an important safeguard for someone in early recovery.
Maintenance or tapering, individualized
The medical team can hold a client on a stable maintenance dose or taper gradually under supervision when the client and team decide the time is right. There is no fixed length of treatment, and the plan is built from the client's history and progress.
Medication paired with therapy
Suboxone is always paired with CBT, DBT, EMDR, group, and family therapy, so the biology of dependence and the patterns around it are treated together rather than in isolation.
The full continuum under one roof
Detox, residential, day treatment, and outpatient all live in one Albuquerque location, so a medication decision made in detox carries through every level of care without changing providers.
A choice between preferred MAT options
Suboxone and the monthly Vivitrol injection work in opposite ways, and the medical team helps each client weigh history, goals, and practical factors to choose together.

How admissions works

Our Suboxone Treatment Admission Process

1

Call our confidential line

One conversation covers a first screening, insurance verification, and scheduling. Support begins with the first call, and nothing shared is used against the person who reaches out.

2

Clinical assessment

Evidence-based screenings, including PHQ-9, GAD-7, the Columbia Suicide Screening, and an ASAM level-of-care assessment, match each client to the right program.

3

The right level of care

If medically supervised detox is needed, the team coordinates a safe arrival with 24/7 nursing. If an outpatient level fits, care starts there instead.

4

Start treatment

Once a plan and coverage are confirmed, treatment begins, with therapy and medication where appropriate carrying through each level of care.

For families

How to help a loved one struggling with opioid addiction

1

Recognize the signs

Tolerance, withdrawal, failed attempts to cut back, and use that continues despite harm are all worth paying attention to. A cluster of signs over time matters more than any one.

2

Start the conversation

Choose a calm, private moment. Lead with care and specific observations rather than blame, listen more than lecture, and offer a concrete next step.

3

Avoid harmful approaches

Skip shaming and ultimatums delivered in anger, and never encourage a person to stop a substance abruptly on their own, since some withdrawals are dangerous.

4

Connect them with care

One confidential call to Ascend covers education, options, and insurance. In a crisis, call 911, or call or text the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Suboxone Treatment FAQs

Is Suboxone just replacing one drug with another?
No. Suboxone is an evidence-based medication that treats opioid use disorder by easing cravings and withdrawal without the intense high that drives addiction. It is used under medical supervision and paired with therapy, the way other chronic conditions are managed with medication.
How long will a client need to take Suboxone?
There is no single right answer. Some people stay on a maintenance dose for an extended period, while others taper off gradually when they and their medical team decide the time is right. Each plan is individualized and adjusted as the client progresses.
What is the difference between Suboxone and Sublocade?
Both use buprenorphine. Suboxone is taken regularly and also contains naloxone, while Sublocade is a long-acting injectable form of buprenorphine given periodically. Both are options in our program, and our medical team helps each client decide what fits.
What is the difference between Suboxone and Vivitrol?
They work in opposite ways. Suboxone uses buprenorphine to partially activate opioid receptors and ease withdrawal, while Vivitrol is injectable naltrexone that blocks those receptors and contains no opioid. Both are preferred options in our program, and the right choice depends on the client's history and goals.
Can a client start Suboxone at Ascend?
In medical detox, our approach is to taper first and switch to a maintenance medication such as Suboxone if our medical team decides it is appropriate. At lower levels of care we continue an existing regimen rather than starting a new one. The medical team guides the decision.
Does Ascend offer methadone instead of Suboxone?
No. Methadone is not in our formulary; we refer to a federally licensed opioid treatment program when methadone is the right fit. The medications we offer and manage here are Suboxone, Sublocade, and Vivitrol.
Does insurance cover Suboxone treatment?
We are approved for Medicaid, Blue Cross, United Healthcare, and Molina, and we are in network with VACCN, TriWest, and CompPsych. Under the ACA and parity rules, most plans cover substance use treatment comparably to other care. We verify benefits before a client commits.
